
Dr. Shafi Bhuiyan

Dr. Shafi Bhuiyan, PhD, MBBS, MPH, MBA, currently serves as a faculty member at the University of Toronto, Canada. He is the co-creator of the MScCH Program for internationally trained physicians and the co-founder of the Clinical Public Health (CPH) Postgraduate Program, designed to support the integration of internationally educated health professionals (IEHPs) into the Canadian healthcare system. He also serves as the Founding Dean of the Graduate School and Director of the MPH Program at All Saints University School of Medicine. Dr. Bhuiyan has worked across academic and research institutions in the United States, Canada, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. He previously served as Senior Health Research Manager at Unity Health Toronto and led several Ministry-funded health research initiatives in Ontario. Under his leadership at the University of Toronto and Toronto Metropolitan University, more than 600 internationally educated health professionals have completed postgraduate training programs, with approximately 96% progressing to employment or further education. His contributions to global health workforce integration, maternal and child health, and community-based research are widely recognized. He has led Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook research and field implementation initiatives in Bangladesh for more than a decade and has contributed to healthcare system strengthening initiatives internationally. Dr. Bhuiyan currently serves as a Board Advisor to NuvoCare Inc. and as a part-time advisor to MCH Hospital initiatives at Hope Foundation for Women and Children of Bangladesh. He is also a former Board Chair of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research and a founding Board Member of the Canadian Association for Global Health. In recognition of his contributions to education, leadership, and community service, Dr. Bhuiyan has received several honours, including the Melvin Jones Fellow, Helen Keller Fellow, the RBC Top 75 Canadian Immigrant recognition and the Lions Clubs International President’s Distinguished Leadership Award.
